The Analysis of The Female by; Bella Utami Based on The Feminist Theory

The Female
by: Bella Utami

You are loved, you are prized,
But you’ve always been discriminated
You’ve been used, you’re ashamed,
And now you’re full of hatred
And then you weep, and then you cry,
But still they wouldn’t listen
With tired hands she waves goodbye,
And men won’t ever be in our position

A.      Feminist Theory
Feminism is a women movement that emphasizes on the emansipation and the equality of a women. Feminism derives from a latin word femina which means woman. This term was first used in 1890 and refered to a theory of the equality between men and women also to the movement for getting the women’s right. The feminism movement itself was began in the 18s century. One thing that united them (the feminist) was the assurance that the society was made with the patriarch system.
The most essential of all the feminist theories is as follows:
1. The women’s roles in all aspects of literature.
2.    Women’s experiences and situations.
3.    Active and critical in developing a better future for women
Types of Feminist Theory:
1.      Cultural Feminism
Cultural feminism gives emphasize on the values in which woman is different from a man.
2.      Liberal Feminism
It views on giving a woman freedom. Human has their own right to act, to think, and to choose. This theory encourage women to be a well-prepared in facing the life’s challenge.
3.      Radical Feminism
This was first emerged in the end of 19s century. Its concern was toward sexism and social dominated (gender). This theory emphasize on the sexual abuse and pornography industry.
4.      Psychoanalysis Feminism
This feminism explains about how women are discriminated by men. And the discrimination is based on men’s mental to discriminate.
5.      Social Feminism
The social feminism emphasize on three things;
a.       To examine the discrimination of both patriarch and capitalism
b.      To analyze the history of materialism
c.       To analyze the determination of human’s life
6.      Intersectional Theory
This theory explains that women are experiencing all kinds of discrimination (gender, sex, social imbalance, etc).

Based on the theories above the researcher will only take a conclusion on what theory this poem will be based on, that;
It’s been long ago since the women have been being exposured with such a discrimination (gender, sex, etc).
We’ll take a look closer to the poem of Bella Utami to show that there’s a discrimination toward women.

B.  Analysis
You are loved, you are prized,
But you’ve always been discriminated
Analysis:
The first line clearly shows that women really are beautifull that all will actually praise them, but at in the end it’s all about forgetting what they (men) truly found in a woman.

You’ve been used, you’re ashamed,
And now you’re full of hatred
Analysis:
This lines show that the faster the era is changing, the more the man make use of women existence. And the women will eventually drown into the hatred.
And then you weep, and then you cry,
But still they wouldn’t listen
Analysis:
Weep and cry here are the effect of what men had been done to women. The thing to matter most is men still won’t listen.

With tired hands she waves goodbye,
And men won’t ever be in our position
Analysis:
And finally, women will leave but sadly to say how much it’ll be hurt, men will never be in women position.

C.  Conclusion
And at in the end women and men will never be the same, there’ll always be a thick line between “What women are” and “What men are”. But the writer believes that we still can talk about anything that matter toward the problem that refers to the women’s right or even the gender equality.
